Weathering With You (Tenki no Ko) is director Makoto Shinkai's follow-up to Your Name, set entirely in a rain-soaked version of modern Tokyo. Unlike Your Name which mixes Tokyo with Gifu Prefecture, almost every scene in Weathering With You is set in real Tokyo neighborhoods. The McDonald's in Shinjuku, the Hina Agency office building in Ikebukuro, the youth shelter in Habu, and the rooftop shrine are all real places that fans can visit. This is the most Tokyo-centric anime pilgrimage available.
Tokyo is great year-round. The film's rainy atmosphere is actually best experienced in June during Japan's tsuyu (rainy season) - it creates an authentic Weathering With You mood. Spring and autumn are most comfortable.
All locations are accessible by Tokyo Metro and JR lines. Get a 1-day Tokyo Metro pass (¥600) for maximum flexibility between Shinjuku, Ikebukuro, and surrounding areas.
